General Bonding Tips

  1. Based on adhesive manufacturer’s recommendations, select the proper adhesive and read the provided Directions-for-Use.
  2. Prepare the surfaces to be bonded by cleaning them thoroughly, and then abrading or chemically treating them as necessary.
  3. Dry fit the parts to make sure that they will come together, as expected, without much in the way of pre-stress.
  4. Prepare the adhesive for use by removing liners on tape, equalizing cartridges of 2-component adhesives, or cutting the nozzle to shape.
  5. Apply the adhesive to the parts, making sure to “wet-out” the product to the surface. Force the adhesive into the surface through rolling pressure, brushing, or spreading as appropriate.
  6. Bring the parts together, making sure to provide firm, even pressure along the entire bondline. Provide a means to hold the parts in place (and pressure on the bondline) using tape or clamps until the adhesive reaches its handling strength.
  7. Clean-up any squeeze-out or adhesive residue with a specialty adhesive remover.
  8. After the adhesive has cured to recommended levels, complete the cosmetic finishing of the repair.
